Hey y’all, it’s one week to the bookfair and we now have an updated schedule of events posted on the site (on the schedule page), as well as many more tablers confirmed. In addition to tabling throughout the day on Saturday at the Nightlight, there will be workshops at Internationalist Books (just down the street), a parade, and two assemblies the following day at the Nightlight, as well as social activities at night.

One Month to the Bookfair!

The second annual Carrboro Anarchist Book Fair is only one month away! It will take place from 1 to 7 pm at the Nightlight at 405 1/2 West Rosemary Street, in Chapel Hill, North Carolina. The following day, November 13, between noon and 4 pm the Nightlight will host two anarchist assemblies to strategize for the future. In this update we cover who will be tabling, what the workshops and assemblies will address, new promotional materials, and a great deal more.

With a new wave of protests and occupations taking off around the country, this is a good time for dialogue about what we’re fighting against and what we want. This book fair is not just a space for consumption—it is above all for connecting, discussing, and organizing. See you this November!

There’s still room for more tables! If you’re involved with a radical bookshop, organizing group, or publishing project, email carrborobookfair@gmail.com to reserve a table. The deadline for reserving tables is November 1. Just like last year, we are asking groups to pay a small tabling fee, but it’s important to us that tabling be accessible to groups that do not expect to make any money.

Workshops

As of now, our scheduled workshops include:

-A presentation on popular struggles against police brutality in the Northwest by Seattle anarchists

-A discussion about fracking presented by Croatan Earth First!

-A workshop on Internet networking that will balance the needs of sociability and privacy for an anarchist audience, presented by Aragorn!; the hope is that the discussion can serve a primarily non-technical audience interested in the successes and failures of using the Internet to solve their projects’ problems

-A discussion of the current phase of capitalism and the new forms of resistance that are arising, hosted courtesy of the CrimethInc. Ex-Workers’ Collective

Food and Entertainment

Throughout the book fair, Sixela Catering will provide an all-vegan buffet-style lunch and dinner meal in return for a suggested donation.

There will be an exciting benefit show and dance party Saturday night, November 12, following the book fair. This will be an event not to be missed! More details coming soon.

Strategizing Assemblies

On Sunday, November 13, there will be two assemblies at the Nightlight, the same venue as the book fair. The first one, starting at noon, will focus on resistance to the prison-industrial complex in North Carolina. The second assembly, beginning at 2 pm, will focus on responses to the ongoing economic crisis.

These assemblies are explicitly for anarchists to brainstorm, share proposals, and discuss; they do not constitute a decision-making body or function as a spokescouncil. The point is not to come to consensus but to develop strategies organically with those with whom you find affinity or resonance.

Promotional Materials

We have two brand new poster designs ready, available in both 8.5”x14” and 11”x17” formats.
We also have glossy promotional postcards available. Email us if you would like to distribute some in your area; the posters and cards are available on our promo materials page.

Housing

We aren’t prepared to formally organize housing for out-of-town attendees, but if you’re coming from far away and have no idea where to stay, email us and we’ll see what we can do.

Hey yall, so two new poster designs were just finished, and we also just received hundreds of glossy promo cards in the mail for distribution. Digital copies of both can be found on the promo materials page. If you would like hard copies and are nearby, email us at carrborobookfair@gmail and we’ll see what we can do.

A schedule of workshops is also in the works, but there is still room for more tablers and presenters, so please get in touch!

Announcing the 2nd Carrboro Anarchist Bookfair!

Carrboro’s second annual anarchist book fair will take place on Saturday, November 12. The book fair will run all day; other events geared towards both organizing and entertainment will take place throughout the weekend. Book lovers, firebrands, and the simply curious are all invited! Anarchists have been in the news a lot this past year, and this is a good opportunity to find out what all the hubbub is really about.
